Bio

Jelani Linder is a lifelong resident of Stone Mountain who believes in the power of local leadership and collective action. Raised in the heart of the city, Jelani’s passion for community development began early—mentored by neighborhood leaders and shaped by the cultural richness of his hometown. With a background in education and civic organizing, Jelani has spent over a decade advocating for policies that uplift families, support small businesses, and protect the city’s unique heritage. Now, he’s stepping up to lead Stone Mountain into a more connected, inclusive, and resilient future.

Policy Positions

Public Safety

Jelani supports increased funding for community policing programs and mental health response units, with the goal of building trust between officers and residents.

“Safety starts with trust. We don’t just need more patrols—we need deeper partnerships between our officers and the neighborhoods they serve.“

Local Economy

He advocates for a small business tax relief program and an annual local vendor fair to ensure that Stone Mountain dollars stay in Stone Mountain.

“When our small businesses grow, our city grows. I’m committed to creating pathways that keep Stone Mountain’s economy in Stone Mountain’s hands.“

Youth & Education

Jelani believes every child deserves access to quality after-school programming, internship pipelines, and youth councils to give students a voice in local decisions.

“Our young people are full of potential. It’s our job to make sure they have every opportunity to lead, innovate, and succeed—right here at home.“

Housing & Affordability

He plans to introduce a citywide affordable housing strategy that supports first-time homebuyers and protects long-term residents from displacement.

“No one should be priced out of the place they call home. We must protect the roots our elders planted and make space for new families to thrive.“

Community Revitalization

Stone Mountain is more than a historic city — it’s a living, breathing community with untapped potential. I believe revitalization starts by honoring our history while investing in our future. That means supporting local artists and entrepreneurs, improving public spaces, restoring neglected areas, and creating environments where families can gather, connect, and feel proud of where they live. My vision is a city where revitalization reflects the culture and character of the people who call it home.

“Stone Mountain’s identity is powerful—but it’s time we write the next chapter together. From parks to main streets, we deserve a city that reflects our pride.“

Sustainability & Infrastructure

A resilient Stone Mountain is one that plans for tomorrow—today. I’m committed to prioritizing smart infrastructure upgrades, walkable neighborhoods, and sustainable development that protects our environment while enhancing our daily lives. Whether it’s modernizing stormwater systems, expanding green spaces, or improving transit access, I want to ensure we’re building a city that works for everyone—now and for generations to come.

“We can be a model for what a green, walkable, and connected Southern city looks like—without losing the spirit that makes us unique.“

Transparency & Governance

The people of Stone Mountain deserve leadership they can trust. I believe in open communication, participatory decision-making, and making city information easy to access and understand. As your representative, I will host regular town halls, publish clear updates on council decisions, and push for systems that bring more residents into the fold. This city doesn’t belong to any one leader—it belongs to all of us.
